University Course Task Team
Course Development forCertificate in
Specification writing and Project Delivery
SCIP has been approaced with a unique opportunity and needs membervolunteersto be able to meet the request!
Lawrence Technological University in Southfield, Michigan has approachedSCIPwith a call for help in creating acertificate in specification writing/project delivery within the College of Architecture and Design. To be granted a certificate, a student would have to successfully complete three elective courses that are focused on the following topics:
Ingredients: This course would cover a broad understanding of building materials, how product research is done, and how materials selections are made for different applications in construction (cost, schedule, constructability, durability, compatibility, etc.).
Cooking: This course would cover the implementation of specifications during the documentation phase of the project, such as how specifications are prepared and how a project manual is used in the administration of the project, as well a project delivery procedures. The content of this course may resemble that which is covered during a CDT study course.
Consumption: This course would focus on how specifications are used during construction.
We are interested in understanding whether any members would like to contribute, either as an adjunct professor who teaches one of the three courses, a contributor who helps develop the coursework, or as a guest lecturer on a specific topic.
The task team and planning will begin immediately and courses would first be offered in Spring 2026.
Amy Baker will be heading up the Task Team and will be in touch with any whovolunteer.
