Bylaws Update – Voting is Open!

The Board of Directors has approved amendments to the SCIP Bylaws and is recommending their adoption. In order to be adopted, the amendments must distributed to membership at least 30 days prior to the ballot return date and must be approved by a vote of two-thirds of the Active Members.

The primary reasoning behind the change is that the bylaws require either Active or Affiliate members have five years’ experience writing specifications, and there was no category for professionals who are new to the practice. In order to grow the profession and provide mentorship opportunities for the next generation of specifiers, the amended bylaws create an Emerging Specifier membership classification, thereby opening the association to specifiers who are beginning their careers or moving into specifications from other areas of design practice. The amendments also rename “Active” to “Consultant” Member in order to be more precise.

See the proposed bylaws here.

Check your email for a message entitled “SCIP Bylaws Amendments – VOTE NOW” sent by Elias Saltz via Constant Contact. There, Active Members will find a link to the survey.

Voting will end March 24, 2022.
