As a Project Architect, I've been using and editing construction specifications for over 8 years. I've recently accepted a position at Populous writing specifications full-time. As a younger (33yo) specification professional, I'm eager to learn from the generations ahead of me, and excited to advance my understanding and skill in specification writing at an early point in my career. I am active in the local CSI chapter, and currently serving a two-year term on the board of directors. I have earned my CDT through CSI, and am currently scheduled and studying for my Certified Construction Specifier. I decided to steer my career path toward specifications, not because I lacked skill in the other aspects of the Design and Construction Industry, but because I saw the need within my own generation for technical experts and advisers. I decided that to have the greatest impact with my talents and interests was to dedicate myself to specification writing. Whether working at a company large enough to support a specification staff, or working as an independent consultant, I believe the role of a Specification Consultant is of value to project teams, especially as buildings and delivery methods become more integrated and complex.
